The Construction of an Identity (2006–2012)
A visual archive of Hara’s early explorations through happenings, performance, installation, photography and video. From Refuge and The Lady of Cao to Conchuda, Ich bin hier, OA+, Fukushima and Codependency, these works trace the gradual construction of an artistic identity through encounters with the body, materials, social conventions and the environment.
Moving between introspection and public interaction, Hara questions inherited patterns, cultural labels and the boundaries between art and everyday life. Each intervention becomes an experiment in constructing and deconstructing identity, using ritual, symbolism and direct somatic experience as tools for transformation.
HARA — Rituals of Introspection
Hara is Alexia Pedal’s artistic alter ego, born from an instinctive need for introspection, protection and expression. Inspired by the Sanskrit concept of Pratyahara, the withdrawal of the senses, Hara moves between inner experience and the external world, exploring the habits, rituals and systematic behaviours through which identity and cultural memory take shape.
Emerging from a sculptural practice, Hara crosses disciplines through textile, installation and performance. Thread becomes a path of introspection, embroidery a dialogue between time and space, while materials such as blood, sand, shells and feathers carry traces of intimate and collective memory.
Through processes of construction and destruction, repetition and transformation, Hara explores the relationship between body, material and environment. Each artistic gesture becomes a ritual of discovery, questioning inherited structures while searching for new ways of experiencing and relating to the world.
